The local branch was initially formed to protect the forests of Vancouver Island, originally areas such as the Carmanah Valley. Campaigns continued for such projects as creating the Sea-to-Sea corridor. Although there are a few paid staff, most of the efforts are accomplished through volunteers. Current issues include The Moratorium on Offshore Oil & Gas Exploration.
